Hey! I am a composer, clarinetist, and music teacher currently based in Vancouver, BC. I have been teaching and tutoring music since 2013 and I love helping others on their musical adventures. I have taught students ages 5 to 70 in composition, theory, voice, and clarinet. I have a degree in German Literature and Creative Writing from the University of King’s College, a Bachelor of Music in Composition from Memorial Univerity of Newfoundland and Labrador and a Masters in Music Composition from Univerity of British Columbia. I am also a visual artist and use graphics in many of my creative works and have run graphic scoring workshops across the country.
I love playing Table Top RPGs, drawing and going for walks with my dog Toby.

Hello! I am a Ph.D. student in music theory at McGill University in Montreal, QC. Originally from Calgary AB, I completed my Bachelor of Music degree at Queen’s University in Kingston, ON and my Master of Arts in Music Theory at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver BC. I have several years of teaching experience in many different types of classrooms: I’ve worked as a freelance private instructor teaching everything from pop music to advanced tonal theory, as a theory instructor for music conservatories, and as a graduate student TA for undergraduate tonal theory core classes (diatonic and chromatic harmony), and am also an English and French tutor. My current research interests lie in both the music of Tchaikovsky and in popular music, especially topics that pertain to groove.
Outside of school, I love to cook, hike, and go bouldering!

Mondays
Our Intermediate Tonal Theory prep course is designed for students who already have some experience with tonal music theory and are looking to work with and/or prepare themselves for more advanced topics. This course is well suited to students who are transitioning from first to second-year university music theory classes or high school students going into first-year who have completed advanced levels of Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) harmony work (e.g., level 7 and above).
This class will cover topics such as writing and analyzing diatonic and chromatic harmonies (including diminished seventh chords, Neapolitan 6th chords, augmented sixth chords, etc.), diatonic and chromatic modulation techniques, and progressions with their harmonic functions. This class will also prepare students for singing chromatic and/or long melodies at sight, multi-part dictations with complex rhythms, and identifying and singing a variety of other scales such as the pentatonic, chromatic, blues, and church modes. Finally, this class will introduce the basics of form, formal function, and phrase structure.
